In addition to vocational programs administered by the Four
County Area Vocational Cooperative, there are also 11 other
vocational programs and numerous vocational courses housed
in the eleven high schools. These programs are one to three hours
in length and administered by the local high schools. Below
is a list of those programs. For additional information, contact

AGRI-BUSINESS
Concentrates on the operation and management of the farm
and related agriculture occupations such as horticulture,
conservation, small animals, and taxidermy. Available in
grades 9-12. Locations: A, B, C, D, E, G, H, I, J
AUTOMOTIVE
Provides classroom related instruction and shop experience
to trouble shoot needed automobile repairs. Includes the
latest technology of automotive computerized system. Available
in grades 11 and 12. Locations: C, F
BUILDING TRADES
Students learn the Building Trades through the actual construction
of a residential home. Students receive experiences with
framing, electrical, plumbing, heating, dry walling, finishing
work, concrete applications, etc. Students will be utilizing
the Associated Builders and Contractors Apprenticeship training
and materials and earn one year of apprenticeship training.

BUSINESS OFFICE SERVICES
Provides students with simulated office functions to become
employed as secretaries, accountants, office managers, etc.
Most programs provide placement with various businesses
within the community to observe actual operations near the
end of the school year. Available in grades 11 and 12. Some
schools restrict enrollment to ONLY grade 12. Locations,

COMMERCIAL ART
In this course, principles of graphic design are used to
develop effective visual messages. Projects may include
such products as: advertisements, signs, posters, packaging,
and brochures. Students are encouraged to experiment with
design elements to create more than one solution to a problem.
Computer programs are also used to transfer freehand design
to printable form. Available in grades 11 and 12. Location:

DRAFTING
Students receive instruction in drafting fundamentals which
are applied to Computer Aided Drafting. Training allows
students to concentrate in an area of interest including
architecture, machine drawings, electronic applications,
design, and illustrations. Available in grades 11 and 12.

FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES
Prepares students for the occupation of homemaking and
related occupations. In addition to courses in Foods/Nutrition
and Clothing Construction, students may enroll in courses
such as Child Development, Family Management, Housing, Consumer
Education, Human Relations, and Family Relations. Available
in grades 9 through 12. Locations: All high schools
GRAPHIC ARTS
Students learn the fundamentals of composition, design
and plate making techniques which are produced using high-tech
printing presses and other related equipment. In addition
to printing, students also learn silk screen applications.

HEALTH OCCUPATIONS
Students who express an interest in any field of health
will benefit in enrollment of this program. Students receive
health technique instruction throughout the school year
in the related class. County Hospitals (DeKalb Memorial
and Cameron) cooperate with the program to allow students
to rotate through the various departments receiving a variety
of experiences. Other community health facilities are also
used as a resource depending upon expressed interest of

INTERDISCIPLINARY COOPERATIVE EDUCATION
This method of vocational training involves direct on-the-job
learning provided by employers in the community. Students
attend school for one-half day enrolling in required and
elective courses (including a daily I.C.E. related class).
The remainder of the school day is devoted to learning occupational
skills through cooperative agreements with area employers.
Most I.C.E. programs restrict enrollment to grade 12. Locations:

HEATING-VENTILATION-AIR CONDITIONING-REFRIGERATION
The skills learned in this program are heating, air conditioning,
refrigeration, basic electricity, sheet metal pattern development,
welding, soldering and the pipe trades. Goals are to train
students for entry level positions and to encourage them
to further their knowledge in apprenticeship programs and
